Date-stamped : 29 May95 - 18:22 Tour match: VICTORIA v ENGLAND Played at Melbourne, 21st-25th March 1895. After the excitement of the last Test match, the return fixture with Victoria aroused only languid interest. Stoddart was too unwell to play and Philipson captained the English team. Winning the toss, G.H.S. Trott put the Englishmen in - the wicket being affected by rain - and this policy, as it happened, won the game. After being got rid of for 131 - G.H.S.Trott bowling with great effect - Stoddart`s team were always losing. Ford made a brilli- ant effort in the second innings, but it was no use, and Vic- toria, thanks to Bruce and Albert Trott, won easily by seven wickets. Source :: Wisden 1896.
