England desperate to bounce back against Sri Lanka in 2nd ODI
bet365 betting preview

Following their whitewash in Bangladesh, England came down to earth with a bump on Tuesday against Sri Lanka when they were shot out for 88 - their lowest score in an overseas one-day international - and suffered a ten-wicket defeat.

England now travel to Colombo for Friday’s match desperate to repair the damage. However, Michael Vaughan’s side remain clear outsiders for the match - they are 7/4 with bet365. The home side are 2/5.

Top Team Batsman
England desperately need a big contribution from their top order. Andy Flintoff’s thunderous contributions in Bangladesh disguised a distinctly average performance from the top three in particular - Vaughan, Vikram Solanki and Marcus Trescothick managed just one fifty between them. In spite of this, Trescothick is still favourite to top-score for England at 11/4. Vaughan is 7/2, and Flintoff 4/1. Chris Read - who regularly bats in the top order for Nottinghamshire in one-day cricket - looks excellent outside value at 28/1.

For Sri Lanka, only Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana made it to the middle at Dambulla. Jayasuriya is rated 3/1 and Kalu 9/2. Of the other batsmen, Mahela Jayawardene looks good value at 11/2.

Player Performances
bet365 are also providing a series of Player Performance bets: choose whether a player will score more or less than a certain score - based on Fantasy-style points. Players score 1 point per run, 20 points per wicket, 10 points per catch, and 25 points per stumping.

Rikki Clarke is rated quite conservatively at 32 - a few runs and wickets will very easily tip him over this figure. Flintoff is rated 55 - Freddie is in form, but if he is miserly but wicketless and dismissed early again, it may be wiser to choose “lower” than 55, which worked in the first match. Upul Chandana is rated 35, and may be worth backing “higher” if you feel England will lose wickets at the opposite end to Murali.
