Australia take unassailable series lead

Ricky Ponting's Australia emulated Steve Waugh's run of sixteen consecutive Test wins as they took a 2-0 lead in this series against India in a thriller of a game at the Sydney Cricket Ground that went right down to the wire. Australia set India 333 to win in a little over two sessions and with only six minutes to spare Michael Clarke picked up the last three wickets off only five balls as Australia sneaked home.

With this win, Australia equalled the record held by Steve Waugh's 2001 side of most Test wins in a row.

Michael Clarke's bowling average against India is a measly 5.11, with nine wickets to his credit.

He is raw in his action and needs to bulk up but so, too, was a young skinny kid from Narromine a decade ago.

Turning Point

Ganguly caught or not?

Sourav Ganguly had just reached his half-century, when he edged one off Brett Lee to Michael Clarke at second slip. Ganguly held his ground as there was some doubt whether the catch had been taken cleanly. Umpire Mark Benson consulted the fielders and gave it out. India lost their sixth wicket for 137. The last four wickets fell for 73 runs and India lost the Test by 122 runs.
