1st ODI: Pakistan v India, 13 Mar 2004

Just when it looked like India's express start would be derailed by suicidal batting, Rahul Dravid - as he has done so often - stepped in. His 99 off 104, on a day of manically fast batting, may have been tame in comparison, but it was also the most valuable knock of the match. Dravid built his innings well; after he lost Yuvraj Singh, he settled down with Mohammad Kaif to rotate the strike and keep the runs flowing in the middle overs, then opened out towards the end to spur India towards their final score of 349. One run more would have earned him a well-deserved century, but those other 99 runs earned India a much more valuable win.
