Shoaib Rocks Eden Gardens, Asian Test Championship, 1999
In the first test of the Asian Test Championship, Pakistan barely managed to get 185 runs when it batted first. In reply, India were cruising along at 147/2 when Akhtar struck. Under the watchful guidance of captain Wasim Akram, Akhtar's bowling improved by leaps and bounds. He bowled extremely fast and attacked the batsmen. India's master technician, Rahul Dravid, struggled. He was ultimately clean bowled by a perfect yorker from Akhtar. The next ball the unthinkable happened. Akhtar comprehensively beat Sachin Tendulkar, one of the best batsmen in the world, for pace and yorked him. Tendulkar's golden duck destroyed India's morale and they crumbled for 223 in the first innings. As for Akhtar, he had just re-entered the big league with another double bang!
A hostile bowling spell from Srinath brought India back into the game. But the Indian batsmen still dazed by what had happened in the first innings could not get going and Pakistan won the match. Sachin's bizarre runout and the ensuing crowd trouble did not exactly help India's cause either.
