Olonga Cleans Up Indian Batting
Zimbabwe batted first and got off to a poor start, being bowled out for 221. This gave India some hope as they went out to bat. The Indians got off to a disastrous start with Nayan Mongia being bowled by Henry Olonga with the score on just 2. Just when it looked like Sidhu and the night watchman Anil Kumble would steady things a bit, Olonga rocked the Indian boat, dismissing Sidhu with 22 runs on the board. Bowling quick to the Indian opener, Olonga had Sidhu caught behind by Flower for 6. Anil Kumble, who was batting sensibly till then was the next to go, when he was bowled off his inside edge off the bowling of Olonga.
Some steady batting by the Indians saw their score move up to 123 for 3. Then once again Henry Olonga got into the act. Taking wickets at steady intervals, Olonga sent Azharuddin, Ganguly and Robin Singh back to the pavilion, completing his 5 wicket haul. Azharuddin never looked comfortable against the pace of Olonga and was finally caught by Neil Johnson at second slip after scoring just one run. Saurav Ganguly and Robin Singh, both left handers, were trapped LBW by Olonga.
What was remarkable about Olonga's performance was the fact that he bowled flat out for 26 overs, capturing 5 wickets for 70 runs. It was for this effort that Henry Olonga was adjudged man of the match.
This set up a good platform for Zimbabwe to attack the Indians in the second innings. And that is precisely what they did, winning the one off test by 61 runs.One-off Test:India Vs Zimbabwe , 7-11 Oct 1998
