Ricky Thomas Ponting

Notable Performances

Ponting Steals Victory From Pakistan

When Ricky Ponting came out to bat, the score was 25 for 1, after just 4.4 overs. The asking rate was a demanding 6.39 . To sustain such a high run rate over 45 overs would take an innings of the highest class. Ricky Ponting responded admirably to the call. His partnership of 193 with 'keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist set the foundation for one of the greatest chases in ODI history. Ponting played an innings of great intelligence, planning his knock perfectly. The hallmark of any great innings is that it takes the game away from the opposition.

By remaining unbeaten till the end, Ponting did just that. Scoring 124 not out, including 10 crisply timed fours, Ponting secured the man of the match award. The two sharp run outs he effected earlier in the day also went a long way in curbing the Pakistanis.
