Jacques Kallis confirmed yesterday that he will be playing for Glamorgan in 2001.

Glamorgan secretary Mike Fatkin said, "We've been hoping this was going to happen for some time. But to see the fax coming through to the office from Jacques's agent in South Africa was wonderful. We consider him to be the best all-rounder in the world and think he is going to get better over the next couple of years. It's certainly nice to get Jacques's situation sorted out."

Kallis, however, is only likely to be available in 2000 for a six week period in mid-season, as South Africa have committed themselves to a Test series in Sri Lanka. The final decision over Glamorgan`s overseas player for 2000 will not be taken until a new coach is appointed, and there has been speculation in the press that the Welsh county will look elsewhere for the 2000 season.

Mike Fatkin said, "The coaching position has to be addressed before we consider what we are going to do about an overseas player. But we should have a clear view of where we are going. We know which countries are on tour and 16 of the 18 counties have signed their over-seas players for next season."
