17 year old Mark Wallace has been included in Glamorgan`s squad for their County Championship match against Somerset at Taunton. The Young England wicket-keeper has been called up as Adrian Shaw, who played in the last Championship match against Warwickshire, is sidelined with `flu.

At 17 years and 287 days, Wallace will become Glamorgan`s youngest ever wicket-keeper in the County Championship, beating the previous record held by John Hopkins, who kept wicket in 1971 against Middlesex at Neath on his 18th birthday. However, Hopkins still holds the record for the youngest wicket-keeper in all cricket, having kept in the Sunday League match against Northamptonshire at Cardiff in 1970 aged 17 years and 68 days.

The record for the youngest wicket-keeper in county cricket is held by former Leicestershire wicket-keeper Ray Julian who made his debut as a 16 year old against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 1953. In more recent times, Bruce French made his Nottinghamshire debut in 1976 aged 16 years and 287 days.

Earleir in the season, another 17 year old appeared in the county side, as David Harrison made his first-class debut in Glamorgan`s opening Championship match at Derby aged 17 years and 263 days old.
