Glamorgan have arranged five extra matches at the start of the 2000 season, playing games at The Oval, Hove and Taunton against Surrey, Sussex and Somerset respectively. The full details of the games, which are all likely to be one day matches, played according to the Benson and Hedges format are:
April 4 and 5 v Sussex at Hove
April 10 v Somerset at Taunton
April 12 and 13 v Surrey at The Oval

The Sophia Gardens ground will also host some extra fixtures during 2000. The ground has already been allocated two Under-19 One Day Internationals, as the England youngsters play their counterparts from Sri Lanka at the Cardiff ground on July 28th and 29th.

In addition, the ground could host the second round tie of the Nat West Trophy between Wales MC and Oxfordshire on May 16th. This is dependant on Wales beating Buckinghamshire in the first round on May 2nd.

Glamorgan have allayed fears that the Sophia Gardens ground would not be ready in time for the start of the season following damage to the playing area during the Rugby World Cup in October and November.

A large hospitality tent had covered the wickets and outfield, and after the tents removal, large areas of grass were found to have been killed off. The club undertook remedial work over the Christmas and New Year period, and this urgent repair work appears to have done the trick.

"It seems to be okay after there was water on the pitches around Christmas, and we are now pretty sure it will be ready in time, " said Glamorgan secretary Mike Fatkin.
