4 January 2000
There has been a lot of speculation in the Welsh press over the New Year weekend that
Glamorgan will sign Matthew Elliott, the Australian opening batsman, as their overseas player
for the 2000 season. With Jacques Kallis likely to be only available for around six weeks
due to touring commitments with South Africa, a number of journalists have suggested that
Glamorgan will approach the 28 year old batsman from Victoria, who had a highly successful
tour of England in 1997 and has played in 20 Test Matches for Australia.
Speaking in an interview on BBC Radio Wales, Glamorgan captain Matthew Maynard confirmed that
the club has approached Elliott, as well as talking to several other players.
Maynard added that the club`s cricket committee will be meeting over the next few days, and
that a decision about the club`s overseas player for 2000 will be made shortly afterwards.

Congratulations to Tom Cartwright who became an M.B.E. in the New
Year`s Honours List. The former Warwickshire, Somerset and Glamorgan all-rounder was the only
cricketer included in the Honours List.
