Pay to Play for Sport Relief

Sportrelief.com Cricket is joining forces this summer with Sport Relief, an exciting new fundraising initiative from Comic Relief and BBC Sport which aims to unite sportsmen and women to use their power and passion to help children and young people who are vulnerable and at risk.

The ECB is encouraging cricketers across the country to support Sport Relief by joining cricket's PAY TO PLAY during the weekend of 15 and 16 June. [Media Release]

So what is PAY TO PLAY and how can you get involved?

During the weekend of 15 and 16 June cricketers from every level of the game can raise money for Sport Relief simply by paying to play cricket.

There are many different ways in which you can PAY TO PLAY and here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Have a whip-round in the pavilion
  • Get sponsored to play a game
  • Pay for each run or boundary (6 or 4) you score or each wicket you take
  • The losing team could pay a pound per run behind or more than this per wicket
  • Fielders could pay for every catch taken
  • Teams could donate money if a spectator takes a catch
  • If a batsman is out anywhere short of 50 they could pay the shortfall in pounds. If they go over 50 the other team could pay a pound per run!
  • Teams could make a donation when a stump's knocked out or a century is scored
  • Teams could donate win bonuses
  • Charge spectators to come and watch you play
Once you've paid to play simply collect all your money and send it as one big cheque/postal order made payable to Sport Relief (Cricket) to:

Sport Relief (Cricket)

(Please don't send cash in the post)
