New Zealand Cricket Inc - 108th Annual Report - 2001/02

A N N U A L   R E V I E W

New Zealand Cricket's sponsor relations continued to be a key business strength. New Zealand Cricket is fortunate to enjoy the support and encouragement of a portfolio of able, enthusiastic, committed sponsors, and they in turn benefit from a shared vision and ethos.

In 2001/02 New Zealand Cricket was delighted to welcome State Insurance aboard as the principal sponsor of all men's and women's domestic competitions and all 12 men's and women's provincial teams. This uniquely synergistic sponsorship has re-energised the domestic product, renewed public and media interest in the sport and brought local cricket lovers back to the grounds to support their home teams.

Television audiences, too, benefited from the invigorated domestic competition, with SKY Television covering eight of the 10 rounds plus the semi-final and final of the State Shield one-day series, and TV3 simulcasting the final ball-by-ball on free-to-air television.

In late 2001 CLEAR Communications was acquired by Telstra Australia, thereafter trading as TelstraClear Limited. New Zealand Cricket's two flagship representative teams will reflect this adjustment in the coming year with an alteration in brand names to TelstraClear Black Caps and TelstraClear White Ferns.

New Zealand Cricket's partnership with The National Bank continued to flourish in this, the third season of its sponsorship of the international series. The National Bank expertly leveraged its sponsorship through a powerful advertising campaign, a preferential ticket offer direct mailed to its huge customer database, and a variety of marketing, promotional and at-ground branding initiatives.
